    What is root canal therapy

    Root canal therapy, also known as dental pulp therapy, is a surgical method to treat pulp necrosis and apical infection in stomatology. Doctors use professional instruments to remove the infectious substances in the root canal, seal the medicine to eliminate local inflammation, and finally fill the root canal tightly with appropriate materials (commonly used is gum tip), seal the apical hole, and try to avoid the recurrence of infection!

    How to do root canal therapy

    1. Pulp opening and drug sealing

    Generally, after the first visit, determine the treatment plan after taking the X-ray film, completely remove the upper part of the tooth, open the pulp cavity, and seal the root canal mouth with drugs (FC, CP, etc.). If there is still a small amount of living pulp left, you need to seal the pulp deactivator!

    2. Root canal preparation

    Before we do root canal preparation, we need to evaluate the root canal status, pulp cavity preparation and root canal working length before operation. Select appropriate root canal expansion (file) to dredge the root canal of the teeth, use professional instruments to enter the root canal, remove residual pulp and infectious substances in the root canal wall, and seal the root canal with Ca (OH) 2 or other drugs for disinfection after completion.

    3. Root canal filling

    The final filling of root canal therapy needs to grasp the appropriate time. Generally, the conditions that can be filled are: no symptoms, no obvious pain, no odor in the root canal, and no abnormal exudation in the root canal. The root canal can be tightly filled with suitable materials (cold gum and hot gum) to avoid the infiltration of infectious substances, prolong the normal use time of teeth as much as possible and ensure the treatment effect!

    Root canal therapy sounds simple, but treatment is difficult

    There are often patients complaining that root canal therapy is just a matter of tossing needles in the mouth. Why is it so expensive and takes so long. Actually, that's not true!

    The root canal system of teeth is very complex and difficult to treat. It requires skilled skills and advanced equipment to achieve the desired effect, such as the root canal treatment of the lower teeth.

    Why do you need to wear a crown after root canal treatment

    The main reasons for wearing a crown after root canal treatment are as follows:

    1. The teeth that we need root canal treatment often have more defects and the residual tooth tissue is relatively weak;

    2. During root canal treatment, it is necessary to cut some infected root canal walls, resulting in the reduction of tooth resistance;

    3. The teeth lose the continuous nutritional support of pulp tissue, become dead pulp teeth, and gradually lose vitality. Therefore, it is recommended to select appropriate materials (all-ceramic teeth, porcelain fused to metal teeth) for crown restoration after root canal treatment.

    Especially for the cracked teeth before operation, some research shows that the overall improvement rate and long-term pain occurrence rate of crown repair+root canal therapy are significantly better than that of simple root canal therapy.

    Warm tips: Because of the metal inside the porcelain teeth, the artifacts will be formed during the MRI and other examinations in the later period, which will affect the accuracy of the report and may hinder the diagnosis of the disease to a certain extent!

    Conclusion: Because of the particularity of its location, the inflammation of dental pulp can not be solved by taking medicine. Our teeth need regular and complete root canal treatment to completely eliminate the infection in the root canal and periapical area, fill tightly, and wear the crown protection before normal use!
